Try a Prosthetic Nose for Cosplay or LARP

The Orc Prosthetic Nose

I have recently begun creating silicone prosthetic noses, and it’s been a lot of fun sculpting my first two projects.  The orc nose is my first completed silicone prosthetic nose and I’m so happy with the results.  I created this original design based on a long history of varying orc styles and incorporated some anatomical design from a wide range of primates. The nose will fit a wide range of cosplayers and because its made of silicone it will afford a wide range of facial motion while remaining quite comfortable.

Full Mask vs Prosthetics

Using multi-piece prosthetics gives the cosplayer/LARPer a much more comfortable alternative to wearing a full mask.  That can make an all day event much more enjoyable.  It can be cast in any custom color as well as our five stock skin-tones. Customers can pair the prosthetic nose with our orc ears and their make-up to create an orc look all their own.  A full silicone face mask can get a bit heavy especially if worn all day and even though silicone masks can be expressive they can’t beat multi-piece prosthetics for mobility of facial features.

Expanding Silicone Prosthetic Appliances

I plan on expanding my selection of silicone appliances to include more prosthetic noses as well as chins and other facial components.  The goal is to provide affordable high quality component pieces.  This will give cosplayers the ability to mix and match pieces to incorporate into their own costume creations.  Allowing LARPers and cosplayers to achieve a level of realism currently not available to the average costumer.

Latest Work in Progress: The Wicked Witch of The West Prosthetic Nose

I began a sculpt of the Wizard of Oz wicked witches’s nose. I finished the rough sculpt and should finish the finer details and texturing on Thursday’s Twitch stream. This sculpt was done on the scale of a man’s nose, while it should fit most people I will also do a women’s scaled version.  I also plan on following up this project with a wicked witch chin prosthetic to complete the set.  I’ll update this post as the project progresses.

The Orc Project

We are heading into our busy season and I’m trying to get a few projects out before it gets too crazy.  My latest undertaking is a new Twitch channel where I’ve been streaming “The Orc Project”. This includes sculpting  custom multi-piece silicone orc prosthetics, plus a stock silicone orc nose, possibly in two sizes.  I’ve The Or Project, so you want to be an orcalready cast stock

orc ears which are available in our shop. The silicone orc prosthetics are ideal for larping or cosplay in addition the silicone allows greater facial expression.

I’ve been broadcasting my sculpting projects two times a week and I hope to keep that up for the foreseeable future. Saturday nights at 8pm I host a cocktails and chill sculpting event which I highly recommend. I’m including this link to my channel;  you should definitely check it out. If you think twitch is just for gamers you’re wrong they have a whole section dedicated to creatives from an elf harpist to potters to cosplay crafters, you name it and there’s a channel for it.

Setting Up My Stream

Live streaming requires a whole other set of skills. Setting up lighting, cameras and mic’s was definitely challenging.  The internet has no end of tips and tutorials and I made use of many of them. Then there’s the broadcast software. Fortunately I have my technical adviser (Mom) to help when it comes to all the nitty-gritty of configuring the software. The cost was relatively low since the software is free and I haven’t invested in a pricey mic as of yet. The upside was that I was forced to organize my work environment and I now have dedicated time to focus on designing new stuff.

My Goals

I’d like to complete the silicone orc prosthetics by the end of the month. I’ll be finishing up my half-elf ears on my next episode (08/09/18) and with any luck I’ll have them cast by the end of the week. The orc ears are available now in both stock skin-tones and custom colors. Look for the new pieces in the Geekling store by September. I’m including a picture of the new orc ears but it is a preliminary photo. I haven’t had time for new product photography. Hopefully I can squeeze some time in for that.

Its been a great experience so far. I’ve had some really entertaining conversations and made time for my creative endeavors. I look forward to my next project and I will definitely use this space to post updates. I look forward to seeing you on the channel!
